Is it necessary to work core specifically, or does Deadlift, Squat, Running and Handstands work core enough?
It seems to me, from what I can see around the gym these days, is that PTs are coming from an orthopedic angle when it comes to training their clients. Rather than ‘training’, it seems more like rehabilitation. Do PTs think that Average Joe Office Worker needs rehab, before they consider them able to ‘train’?

Dan,
From core, outward. All of the exercises you mention both demand and train core strength. What I think happens is that people tend to train the mirror muscles first because they respond and people notice them. Biceps, chest, etc. How many guys neglect legs all together? But having the extremity strength, as I call it (that is, stregnth outside the core) will hit plateau and die without good core strength and conditioning. Not to mention that strong core just serves us well in every day life. Picking up boxes, walking up stairs, carrying a ladder, changing laundry over, etc All core exercises.
I have heard about Rehab before, but don't know the details for terminology. Can some one here tell me the details regarding this terminology.
I think Rehab is some kind of addiction if I am not wrong. You can search for Google for more details regarding Rehab.
I would like to appreciate you buddy for sharing the useful information with us.

I have an uncle and a niece who are fat. I think I will encourage him to do a gymnastic inspired training not just to lose weight but also to prevent future health problems.
